ARTIST PROFILE

Pearl de Chalain is a self-taught artist actively creative in North Carolina.  Born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa, Pearl's grandmother used to describe her as being born with a pencil in her hand and a whole lot of cheek coming out of her mouth! 

After opening her Johannesburg studio in 2009, Pearl soon started accepting commissions and building a reputation as a generous, relaxed and fun teacher in the arts of coloured pencil, calligraphy, book-binding, sketchbooking and watercolour basics.  In 2020 she uprooted and relocated to the USA.

Examining her coloured pencil artwork, one soon realises she loves the challenge of photo-realism and the need to capture the essence of a subject.

Pearl's artworks can be found in private collections, and have also been displayed in several international exhibitions, including the British Library and Museum.

Pearl has 5 children, 13 grandchildren, and on to her second husband, Paul, with no plans of moving on to the third!

... and she can always be bribed with good quality chocolate.
